Ayr Clinic

This well-paid, daytime post involves two sessions per week (flexible rota) at the acclaimed Ayr Clinic (40 minutes drive from the centre of Glasgow). This is a private, low-secure, forensic mental health facility in which the successful candidate will aim to provide good physical care of 44 patients with highly complex and challenging psychiatric conditions. Patients often have complex physical health needs such as metabolic syndrome, obesity, hypertension, diabetes and osteoporosis along with the usual common infections.

The GP, aided by a healthcare assistant and a practice nurse, will provide screening, vaccination, health education, chronic disease management and an annual physical health check for each patient. They will support the nursing staff and allied professionals as they seek to offer a wide range of holistic care to patients with complex psychiatric and social needs, whose mental illness has often brought them into conflict with the law.

There will be good opportunities for CPD and links with the local NHS and widely with the Forensic Network in Scotland. Study leave will also be available by negotiation with the clinical director. This post is supported by a dedicated medical secretary.

This post would be ideal for an experienced GP with an interest in mental health and in providing holistic (including spiritual) care, perhaps as a semi-retirement job.
