13. Abortion – extension to Northern Ireland

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill 2007-8
Briefings from the Christian Medical Fellowship

Background

The 1967 Abortion Act has never applied to Northern Ireland. It has long been a goal of the pro-choice movement to extend it there. By clear majority, the people and politicians there do not want it.

CMF policy

Westminster should not impose abortion legislation on Northern Ireland. This is a devolved issue which must be left to the democratically elected representatives of the citizens of Northern Ireland.
