Student Update - Feb 08

Greetings in Jesus' name. I'm writing with what I hope will be the first of a semi-regular email update to all CMF student members giving details of CMF events coming up soon.

Click on the links to get further information about any of the events.

It was great to be joining together for the Week of Prayer last week. I was so encouraged reading through the Powerpoint slides to hear more of what God is doing in the medical schools and to pray with you for the needs of vaious CMF groups. Do you have an ongoing regular time for praying for other Christian medics?

The London Elective Day will be at CMF on Wednesday 5 March from 1:30-6pm. This is a great afternoon of information, resources and ideas on the how and why of organising an elective in a resource-poor environment. Where to go? How to plan? It's all here!

If London is too far for you, then there is a Scottish Elective Day (which is doubling as a Scottish students' day conference) in Edinburgh on Saturday 8 March. Timetable will be very similar to the London event and you can sign up online for this one or get more information from Lloyd Thompson.

Leading up to Easter we will all be thinking of the crucial events of the death and resurrection of Jesus. CMF is supporting an excellent week of national events on 'Resurrection - Fact or Fantasy?' with Prof Gary Habermas - a US philosopher who spends his life explaining and defending the resurrection. Events will take in several cities from 9-16 March and you can get more info from the events flyer and tour homepage.
As many of you are surrounded by friends and colleagues of other religions and worldviews, we're relaunching Answering Other Faiths at CMF on Saturday 15 March from 10am-5pm. This interactive and very practical day will look at how God views other religions, how to diagnose your friends' worldviews and how to communicate the gospel to them in ways that are meaningful and attractive. We hope to run other AOF days around the country in future months.

The Student Leaders' Conference will be at Telford on 4-6 April. This is for all new leaders of CMF student groups, and will also include tracks for National Students' Committee members and graduate supporters of student ministry.

The current interest around the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill is highlighting the need for Christian medics to put their heads above the parapet and communicate Christian values to a society that has largely forgotten them. Speaking Out! will be at CMF on Saturday 3 May and will equip students and others with the background and practical skills to speak out more on ethical issues, whether it's involving your church, writing to MPs or newspapers, getting involved in the BMA or even doing radio and TV interviews. Publicity will follow shortly but note the date and plan to come if you are interested in these issues.

For those of you in Ireland who might be feeling a bit far away from some of these events, don't worry! Here's advance notice of a CMF Irish conference (the first for a few years) on 7-9 November at Carraig Eden, Greystones, near Dublin. We hope to have a mixture of Answering Other Faiths material and Christian medical seminars that will be well worth waiting for! Publicity will follow in due course but note the dates for now.

This is just a snapshot of some of the big picture things coming up. Do be in prayer for them and also for the students in your own medical school and region. God is doing great things amongst Christian medics.

Grace and peace.
