Student Update - April 08

We hope you had a restful Easter with some time to focus on what Jesus achieved for us there. Here goes with the second bimonthly CMF student email update.

On Saturday 3 May we're holding a day conference in London entitled 'Speaking Out'. The day is focused on equipping you with skills in speaking out about medical ethics and social issues. There will be sessions on public speaking, evidence-based dialogue, writing skills, media, how medical public policy and law is formed, how the BMA works, etc. Booking forms are available here. Put the date in your diary and as it's the Bank Holiday weekend - maybe you could consider making a weekend trip to London if you're from further afield! You should receive a separate email with further details on this.

The Spring issue of Nucleus is now available online! Take a look at the two lead articles on homosexuality (focussed on Christian responses and scientific research). Other articles include one on mind enhancing drugs and a refreshing reminder of the vital need for prayer in our Christian lives.

Apologies that many of you didn't receive Nucleus with the rest of the CMF mailing. This was due to problems at the distribution company (remember, the ones that sent you all free copies of Cosmopolitan by mistake!?). Hopefully you should all have received a copy by now. If you have moved and not received any post from CMF for a while then we probably have your wrong address (you can update your address on sandra.hartley@cmf.org.uk).

We had a great Student Leaders' Conference in Telford on 4-6 April. Please do uphold the new local group leaders in prayer.

The BMA Medical Students' Conference was on the same weekend, with several CMF students involved. The BMA presents many opportunities to speak out on ethical issues. Nominations are now open for local and national BMA student reps – why not consider taking up this opportunity?! The deadline is on 7 May and nomination forms are online.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill is due to be debated in the House of Commons soon. Please pray for this. Thank you to those who have been meeting and writing to your MPs - it's really making a difference. Please continue to do this and email Avril or check our website if you want any more info on the bill or help writing or responding to your MP.

CMF's Healthserve Day is on 5 July at Oak Hill College, North London. A great opportunity to explore all the issues relating to medical mission work in the developing world.

The International Christian Medical and Dental Association has its four-yearly Eurasia regional conference in Austria on 7-14 September. This is a wonderful chance to meet hundreds of Christian medics and dentists from around 60 nations, with excellent teaching and fellowship.

There are lots of other events happening around the country, don't forget to check the website to see what's going on in your area!

God bless,
