developing health course

healthcare in resource-poor settings for doctors, nurses, midwives and therapists

This two week course is designed to impart appropriate knowledge and skills to healthcare professionals working in resource-poor countries or planning to go.

The Developing Health Course provides high-quality training for work in resource-poor settings. The course covers a wide range of topics and includes practical workshops as well as lectures and case-based learning. See this year's programme here.

The course is aimed both at those currently working overseas who want to update their knowledge, and those who are planning to go who want to be equipped for the work they will do. In addition, many who are simply interested in international work have found it a useful opportunity to learn more about it and explore the possibilities of getting involved.

Participants on the 2009 course commented:

'I looked for a long time on the internet for a course such as this. It was everything I hoped for and more.'

'Brilliant preparation both medically and spiritually as we're leaving to go overseas, for the first time, in two days. Just a brilliant start. Thanks you!'

'It was really excellent. I really appreciated the way people walked us through clinical problems with a practical approach, keeping in mind that we may not have access to all the things we have in our home countries.'

'This course has been a fantastic mixture of all the specialities, a very good refresher course to bring us up to date.'

'Extremely valuable course for anybody thinking of working abroad and the fellowship is wonderful.'

You can read the 2009 report here.
