Submission to the Welsh Government Draft Human Transplantation (Wales) Bill

Published: 10 September 2012

The Welsh Government consulted on its draft Bill to introduce a system of 'presumed consent' for organ donation. This Bill will permit doctors to remove organs and tissue from any dead patient, unless they had specifically registered a formal objection to it. Families of the deceased will still have an important role to play in the process however their role is unclear in the draft Bill. The new law is planned to be brought into effect in 2015.
