Where: Harby Centre, near Nottingham
Time: from 3pm Monday 25th, to midday Friday 29th.
Hosted by: CMF

A rural retreat in the country for CMF students. Come for some really good, interactive small-group teaching on issues surrounding the Christian practice of medicine: worldviews, health, work, compassion, ethics, mission, explaining your faith.

Delegates: About 15-20 Christian medical students.

Objectives:

  • To explore a Christian understanding of health and healthcare.
  • To think through the issues related to being a Christian medical student in the UK and Ireland.
  • To promote networking between students from different medical schools.

Programme:

  • Historical and philosophical overview of Western medicine
  • Medical ethics
  • Art and humanities in medicine
  • Whole person medicine: physical, social, spiritual and mental healthcare
  • Personal beliefs and medical practice

2012 faculty includes:

  • Dr Alex Bunn BMBCh MRCP. Alex works part-time for CMF, and is a portfolio GP and prison doctor. He has an MA in medical ethics from St Mary's University College, London.
  • Dr Laurence Crutchlow MBBS DCh DRCOG MRCGP. Laurence works part-time for CMF, with responsibility for editing the student journal, and is a GP partner.
  • Dr Scott Stadalsky BSc MD. A US board-certified internist and pediatrician, Scott is currently working as a paediatrician in Dundee and is the CMF staff-worker there.
  • Dr Megan Kibbey DMD PhD. Megan is a dentist, and the CMF associate staff worker in Dundee.
  • Dr Giles Cattermole BMBCh DipIMC DMCC FCEM. Giles is Head of Student Ministries at CMF, and a part-time Consultant in Emergency Medicine. He has an MA in the ethics of healthcare from Swansea University.

Costs:

  • CMF members: £60, non-CMF members: £80 (the cost of the week is subsidised by CMF).
  • Costs include accommodation and food.
  • Delegates will need to provide for their own transport to the centre, but we will be able to pick people up from the station in Bingham (or Melton Mowbray, but there might be more of a wait from there!). We advise early booking for cheaper train tickets!
