CMF and Medical Missionary Association merge to strengthen global healthcare mission

Published: 24th May 2004

Medical Missionary Association [MMA] Healthserve, one of the UK's longest serving Christian mission organisations has merged with CMF.

The new merger will increase CMF's ability to resource and support healthcare professionals working abroad, through the experience that MMA and its staff have acquired. Steve Fouch, former Director of MMA Healthserve, will join CMF as Allied Professions Secretary.

Peter Saunders, General Secretary of CMF outlined the benefits the merger brings, 'MMA Healthserve bring with them 126 years of experience and a raft of resources that will greatly improve our ability to mobilise and support healthcare mission, both in the UK and overseas. The new merger will increase CMF's ability to bridge the gap between needs and resources in the area of overseas healthcare mission, matching people with opportunities where the need is most.'

'In joining together, CMF and MMA hope to strengthen their existing partnership and build on the work of both organisations. Increasingly over the previous 10 years we have operated in direct partnership, sharing projects, staff and vision, and together we will be much more than the sum of our individual parts.'

As a result of the merger, MMA HealthServe, will become simply, Healthserve, a ministry within CMF. Its staff will continue to mobilise, envision and equip Christian healthcare professionals and students for involvement in healthcare mission by linking up individuals and opportunities in the developing world.

Peter Armon, Overseas Secretary of CMF, said: “This partnership is a great step forward. MMA's expertise will enable CMF to expand and develop the multidisciplinary global healthcare mission activities, which are at the heart our ministry.'

Steve Fouch commented: “Some things will change and some things will stay the same, but primarily we see this merger as the start of something new. God is quite clearly pointing both MMA and CMF in this direction and we look forward to our new partnership with great expectation.”
