Nurses
Writers’ Day Course
In March, we held our second writers’ day course for nurses and midwives, led by the indefatigable Andrew Fergusson. The aim of the day was to identify nurses and midwives who have a real passion for writing, and to help give them more skills and confidence.
We also have the ulterior motive of nurturing more writers for our regular CMF nursing magazine, Spotlight – this is a great way of encouraging new writers to put their newly acquired writing skills into practice immediately.
Three nurses and two midwifery students attended. Andrew likes a maximum of five participants, so they can have individual input. Already I have heard back from them all with such enthusiastic responses that I’d like to share a few:
‘I absolutely loved the writers’ day. It was so lovely to meet other Christian nurses and midwives who love writing… Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to go. I’m very happy to try and write something (for Spotlight). I’m keen to put everything I’ve learned into practice!’
‘I really enjoyed the writers’ day on Saturday. It was so helpful, and Andrew taught us the essentials for good writing in the future.’
‘It was definitely good to bring a prepared written piece. I think it builds confidence to read your work aloud and hear others affirm that you do have something worthwhile to say!’
Our thanks to Andrew for sharing his time and wisdom. Please contact Pippa if you are a nurse or midwife who would also like to develop their writing skills.
