The Merrywood Practice
William Budd Health Centre
6-8 sessions per week - starting from August 2017 (this can be flexible)

Our senior partner is retiring after 21 years at the practice, so we are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our team - ideally as a partner, or salaried with a commitment to partnership within 12 months of appointment.

We are an innovative teaching practice in south Bristol with a list size of approximately 6,800 and are a consistently high achieving EMIS-Web practice - 100% Q&OF points this year, we receive excellent patient survey results and were recently rated 'Good' by CQC.

The clinical team is currently three partners, four salaried doctors, a GP registrar, a practice clinical pharmacist, practice counsellors, a home-visiting nurse practitioner and a skilled nursing team.

Merrywood Practice moved into a newly built health centre in 2000, situated in the pioneering Knowle West Health Park in south Bristol. there is an extended primary care team based in the spacious building, plus other community services based in the Health Park.

We work collaboratively with five other local practices as the Go6 cluster, and are also one of only 15 national Rapid Test Sites for Primary Care Home. This has seen the development of a number of pilot projects working with Bristol Community Health and other organisations. These include an integrated community leg ulcer clinic, three home-visiting medical practitioners, and five practice-based clinical pharmacists.

We have a strong learning and teaching ethos. We train GP registrars and F2 doctors, teach all five medical undergraduate years for Bristol University, and provide work experience for sixth form students. Our new doctors are encouraged to contribute to this learning environment, recognising the value it gives to clinical and personal development. As members of the Primary Care Research Network, we are involved in recruiting into many studies each year, led by the local universities.

An enthusiastic group of young doctors are settling in, learning to take the practice forward. We encourage regular sharing, learning and support, and offer flexibility of working hours within the needs of the practice.

Here is a unique opportunity for you to make a real difference in an area of high health needs and be part of our creative and supportive practice.

Informal enquiries initially to Vicki Staatz, Practice Manager - call 0117 944 9750 or email vicki.staatz@gp-l81094.nhs.uk for more information and an application pack. Or contact Dr Sheila Pietersen on the same number or email sheila. pietersen@gp-l81094.nhs.uk.

What do other doctors think of us?

"I enjoy working at Merrywood for several reasons. It is busy and the clinical work is often challenging but it is well organised and an aura of calm pervades. there are numerous systems in place to make the administrative side of the job as easy as possible and the whole practice team is friendly and incredibly supportive." Dr Helen Wehner, maternity leave cover - salaried GP.

"As a locum working at Merrywood I always feel well supported. The receptionists and nursing team are great and the doctors very friendly and approachable. The Practice Manager is efficient and proactive, meaning things get done when they should. The practice has designed an appointments system which is very responsive to patient need and fluctuations in demand. This results in better care, because urgent issues are dealt with swiftly, and patients with very complex needs are given the time and attention which their problems deserve." Dr Jane Ogden, regular locum.
