Doctor needed at the Good News Hospital

The Good News Hospital in rural Madagascar serves the local population with compassionate medical care whilst sharing the Good News of Jesus. A short term medical doctor is sought to join the team for 4 months (Mar-Jun 2021). More about the work of the project can be found on the website.

Essential requirements:

1. Active love of Jesus and commitment to His commission to make disciples of all nations.

2. French spoken to at least GCSE level (A or A*) and ideally higher.

3. Two (preferably four) years of experience following completion of medical school.

Duration:

1st March 2021 to 18th June 2021.

But welcome to come earlier (allowing some overlap and better induction/handover- highly recommended) and stay later if desired.

Description/responsibilities:

- ward rounds on medical ward (10-20 patients).

- outpatients (unselected, walk-in service).

- medical oncalls: 1 in 3 to 1 in 5 (depending on other staff). 24 hour oncalls, first oncall for all new patients, covering inpatients on medical ward/surgical ward/maternity. Intensity variable, some sleep almost always possible, usually between 0 and 4 admissions between midnight and 06h00.

- support: oncall surgeon for consultation on trauma/gynaecology/surgical cases as required. Part time paediatrics registrar available to review patients 3 days a week and out of hours telephone advice. Ophthalmology department to take eye cases during working hours.
