The Potter's Village is a crisis centre that rescues abandoned babies, nurtures them and returns them to their extended family, or to foster care if that is not possible. It was started ten years ago by Rev Jenny Green, a CMS missionary and is now funded by a small Anglican-based trust.
Around six years ago, a medical centre for children up to the age of 12 was added. It has the only special care baby unit in the district and is now flourishing. It is run by a paediatrician from the UK and a Ugandan national Christian doctor, recently qualified.
They are in desperate need of locum doctors who could step in for a few weeks now and then to give the resident medics a much-needed break. The doctors would need to be self-funding, but they will have access to free good quality accommodation and food is very cheap.
The clinical experience is unbeatable and the whole experience is great fun. Interested doctors need not be paediatricians but would have to be GP's with an interest in working with children.
