Christian Medical Fellowship appoints new Chief Executive
Dr Mark Pickering has been appointed as Chief Executive of the Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF).
Mark, who is a well known and popular figure at the doctors and nurses group, is currently working in general practice in the prisons of South Yorkshire.
He will take up his new role early in 2019, replacing Dr Peter Saunders, who after 27 years will be leaving CMF to lead the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA).
Mark, a graduate of King’s College London, has previously been in practice in York and London, prior to which he served at CMF as the student journal editor and later Head of Student Ministries – where he led conversations about medical ethics and the role of faith in medicine.
Dr Peter Saunders commented: ‘Mark will bring boundless energy and passion to the role of Chief Executive of CMF. He is a highly respected GP and an expert in medical ethics who has a long track record of standing up for Christian values at the BMA and in the media.’
‘I would urge all our members, friends and supporters to pray for Mark, and his wife Rachael, as they return to London and prepare for this new and exciting challenge.’
Peter concluded: ‘It is a great honour and privilege to pass the baton to him.’
Mark commented: ‘CMF has played a huge part in my life for the last 24 years and it is an amazing privilege to serve God by leading the Fellowship at this exciting time. Christians in healthcare face times of great challenge, but also great opportunity, both here in the UK and further afield. I look forward to seeing where God will take us together.’
