Northern Ireland Public Health Bill
‘The Department of Health has launched a consultation asking for views on new health protection measures, being implemented through a Public Health Bill to replace the current Public Health Act (Northern Ireland) 1967.
The overarching principle of the legislation is to protect the population against various forms of infection and contamination, enabling us to respond to public health emergencies.’
CMF has expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute a partial response (not having resources to provide a full response in the time available). We also expressed concern:
- that the Bill’s proposals are tied to WHO regulations and that the WHO is intent on getting member states to sign up to a new Pandemic Treaty that would override national sovereignty, undermine democracy, and restrict individual freedoms
- that the Bill’s proposals are overly far-reaching, including compulsory vaccinations, as are the penalties being proposed for resisting them
We suggest that the NI government consider conduction a Referendum on the terms of the Bill, and that re-balancing the power of the state and the rights of individual freedoms in the Bill is required.
