Remembering Millie

Radio 4 recently broadcast a touching story on the life of a disabled child.  The program revealed how CMF members, Frances and Martin, were told that their daughter suffered from holoprosencephaly.  Despite medical advice they chose to proceed with the pregnancy and in February 2007 Millie was born.

Astonishingly, not only did Millie survive the birth, she lived for 22 months, far longer than anyone had expected.  During this time she touched the lives of many of the people she came into contact with, family, friends at the school gate, the church and in Helen House (where she was looked after by Vicky Lavy, a CMF member of staff). She challenged many pre-conceived ideas about disability, unconditional love and the meaning of life.

In the program her family members spoke openly about how Millie affected their lives and strengthened their faith, and how they learnt to love her unconditionally despite her physical deformities.   Their testimony illustrates vividly how God uses unexpected ways to shine out his amazing qualities.
