The Christian Medical Fellowship is an organisation of around 4,000 doctors, nurses, midwives, and 500 medical, nursing and midwifery students throughout the UK and Ireland working in partnership with local churches. Our aims are to encourage Christian medics in their work and faith, to provide a Christian perspective on medicine and ethics, to support local groups of Christian medical students and doctors, and to promote interest in medical mission throughout the world.

CMF is a member body of the Evangelical Alliance and the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA).

CMF members all belong to and serve local churches. Many more healthcare professionals attend their local church and would value the support of other church members as they seek to treat patients as whole people - body, mind and spirit.

'CMF is a great help both for equipping Christian doctors and nurses to relate their faith to the challenges and opportunities in medicine and for providing fellowship and evangelistic opportunities with their fellow health professionals.'

'It brings an expertise in the field and openings in the medical world that local churches find hard to muster without being in an healthy partnership with an organisation like this.'

Revd Hugh Palmer - former Rector at All Souls, Langham Place, London.

CMF is developing a network of CMF Link Churches around the UK.

We would like to enlist your church as a CMF Link Church.

Newly qualified medics start their careers in August, and nurses and midwives often start their first jobs in September/October. Many have no links in their new workplace and no church contacts in the area. It is at this point that many health professionals drift away from Christian fellowship. CMF is working to support Christian healthcarers through this key time of transition, and ensure they remain connected to and engaged with local church.

Many health professionals in training find these years a time of intense pressure. There are new responsibilities, new locations, and new colleagues in a health service environment where all healthcarers face the challenges of growing health needs, shrinking health budgets, the long-term impacts of COVID-19, uncertainties about the future direction of the NHS, and increasing hostility to Christian faith and values.

'We, as church leaders, need to be aware that the medics who are part of our church are grappling with some of the really big ethical issues within our society at this time and often feel isolated and unsupported.

But CMF is there to be able to help them, support them, and provide fellowship for them, in order to enable them to be genuine Christian contributors into the health service at this time.'

Steve Clifford - former General Director, the Evangelical Alliance.
