        Are you a generalist?

CMF Global is hosting a series of interactive online training modules. These will be collaborative, with teaching, small group work, questions and feedback. This year we’re aiming these at generalists looking for more specialist teaching. There will be time to get to know one another and the subject more thoroughly.

        Event Details

Built on the Rock is a series of webinars for resident doctors.

In a rapidly changing cultural landscape, we often feel caught in the tension between our Christian faith and a secular workplace. The NHS and wider society seem to be increasingly at odds with biblical principles or even faith in general. But how can we, as Christian doctors, navigate this cultural divide while staying true to our faith?

In this series, we’ll explore some of the questions we face as a Christian in modern medicine, including:

        • How do I stay faithful to Jesus when cultural pressures clash with biblical truths?
        • What does it look like to engage with critical theory, postmodernism, and secular ideologies in healthcare?
        • How can I advocate for life when the ethics of abortion, euthanasia, and patient care are hotly debated?

We’d love you to join us in this series of online talks on the first Monday of the month where we’ll provide foundational biblical principles to help us wrestle with the big questions life and medical practice can pose.

        Next session:

        Monday, 12 May 2025 | 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm on Zoom

Faith in Flux: Understanding religious deconstruction and crafting a compassionate response (Kristi Mair)

        About the upcoming session

A growing number of once-committed Christians are questioning their faith, leaving the church, and even identifying themselves as ‘exvangelical.’ Why are they walking away and what can we do about it? This session unpacks the faith deconstruction movement, provides a biblical analysis, and suggests ways Christians can respond.

Kristi Mair is a Lecturer in Philosophy and Ethics at Oak Hill College, London. She teaches various subjects, including public theology, ethics, and epistemology. Kristi has written a short book on truth (‘More>Truth,’ 2019). She is passionate about engaging the church and the world in its questions so as to grow a healthier faith rooted in a deeper appreciation and understanding of theological ways of knowing.

Come and join us for 4 nights at Criccieth where the mountains meet the sea, to consider the needs in the world today, learn more about what the Bible teaches about mission and see what God is doing.

We’ll think about what it means to make disciples and how to demonstrate God’s love in practical action. There will be the opportunity to work through practical questions, learn from each other and think through how we could be involved now and in the future. There will be time for Bible study, prayer, praise, learning in groups, wild swimming, walks and personal reflection.

        Who is it for?

Are you involved or interested in global health and mission?

Keen to both share and learn from lessons in the past but consider how European-trained healthcare professionals can partner in medical mission in the future?

        Who should come?

Perhaps you have been engaged previously in global health and mission work? Come and learn how needs are changing – share your experiences and learn how you could remain interested and involved.

And what if you are just starting out in your career in healthcare? What a perfect time to come and learn with other European colleagues some pointers for effective collaborative ways of working with national colleagues in global health and mission

We will have mission leaders helping us think biblically on such issues, clinical practitioners from whom we can learn, agencies that can facilitate your journey, inspiring stories, and come with your questions, concerns, hopes and dreams!

Christians across Europe will be gathering to consider how we partner in medical mission today. This event will be hosted in north west London, with easy access to tube lines from central London and to Heathrow or Luton airports.

        SAVE THE DATE!

        Dates: Monday 15th-Wed 17th September 2025 (5pm Mon till 2pm Wed)

Venue: Highgate House, Northamptonshire, Grooms Lane, Creaton, Northampton NN6 8NN

This three-day residential conference takes place at a new Christian centre in Northamptonshire, offering ensuite accommodation, meals, refreshments, inspiring talks, diverse seminars, and activities – all set in a beautiful and peaceful environment.

This conference is for Christian doctors, nurses, and midwives who are approaching retirement, reducing clinical commitments, or already retired – seeking to embrace this new season with purpose, joy, and a deepening call to shine for Christ.

Shining ever brighter – navigating new seasons of calling with purpose and joy

We pour so much of ourselves into medicine – our time, energy, and sense of purpose. But as the shape of our work changes, whether by reducing clinical commitments or stepping into retirement, how do we continue shining ever brighter in God’s calling (Proverbs 4:18)? How do we stay fresh and fruitful in this next stage (Psalm 92), invest in others through maturing and mentoring (Titus 2), and navigate the physical realities of ageing while keeping our eyes on grey hairs and glory (2 Corinthians 4)?

This conference is an opportunity to reflect, pray, and plan for what’s ahead – letting go with grace, stepping forward with purpose, and shining ever brighter each day in God’s unfolding story.

Speaker: Chris Green is the vicar of St James, Muswell Hill, in north London. An experienced Bible teacher, speaker, and author of around a dozen books, he’s also approaching this next season himself. He wants to do more than paint some paintings and walk the dog! In three sessions, we’ll explore what the Bible has to say about this transition and consider some practical ways to serve God fruitfully beyond employment.

        Talks

        1. Psalm 92:1-15 Fresh and fruitful – How to approach a healthy next age
        1. Titus 2:1-15 Maturing and mentoring – What might best fill our diaries?
        1. 2 Corinthians 4:1-18 Grey hairs and glory – Physical realities and our wonderful future

DNA editing – a significant advance but many questions remained unanswered

You can see my Sky News interview on this story here. Scientists have, for the first time shown that it is possible to correct gene mutations in human embryos successfully using a gene editing tool potentially opening the door to treatment for over 10,000 single gene disorders. Ideology or Evidence (part two)? The battle over abortion statistics

Having blogged about the triumph of ideology over evidence in relation to the campaign in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland for presumed consent to organ donation, I can now report on a campaign where evidence triumphed over ideology. This one is in relation to the reporting and publicity of abortion outcomes. To give some background: […]

Ideology or evidence? The battle over presumed consent to organ donation

The debate about changing the law on organ donation is one of a number of controversial issues where I believe that we are increasingly seeing the triumph of ideology over evidence. Why Boots chemist should not have capitulated to pressure from BPAS over emergency contraception

Over the weekend I waded into the debate on whether Boots should reduce the price of the so-called ‘morning-after pill’ and criticised the high street chemist for ‘capitulating in the face of political pressure’. The rollercoaster journey of the last twelve months has left many UK citizens feeling dislocated and anxious about the future of our country. A personal response to the BMA vote on abortion

I was saddened to hear that the BMA have voted to recommend the decriminalisation of abortion. Having lost a baby at 29 weeks, I know only too well the effect that these laws have on those, who like me, refuse a termination and who lose a child. In the summer of 2015, at 23 weeks […]

How should Christians respond to the transgender issue?

You might think that there are few things more self-evident than the fact that human beings are divided into two distinct types, male and female. Females have XX chromosomes, female hormones, breasts, ovaries, wombs and vaginas. Males have XY chromosomes, male hormones, testes and penises. Don’t they? But now we’re being told that gender is […]
