During the lunch break at the Executive Committee meeting on Saturday 29 November, there was a ceremony naming our new home at 6 Marshalsea Road as "Johnson House".
Chairman Trevor Stammers read briefly from two psalms, including Psalm 127:1 – "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labour in vain" . Mrs Esther Johnson, Alan's widow, then unveiled the plaque with the ringing declaration: "I name this building Johnson House".
Paul Johnson, one of Alan's sons, who is a consultant paediatric surgeon in Oxford, then prayed and dedicated the building, the members, and the staff to God's glory and to the service of medicine.
The name was chosen to commemorate the foundation of CMF in 1949 by Dr Douglas Johnson who was the first General Secretary, serving 25 years. Surgical professor Alan Johnson, one of his two sons, was Chairman of CMF for two years in the early 90s, and had become President shortly before his untimely death in 2006.
Paul's wife Hilary, a psychiatrist, is also a member of CMF, as are Alan's brother Gordon and his wife Ann. Completing the family gathering was Alan and Esther's other son, Andrew, who works with Latin Link.

Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF) was founded in 1949 and is an interdenominational organisation with over 5,000 doctors, 900medical and nursing students and 300 nurses and midwives as members in all branches of medicine, nursing and midwifery. A registered charity, it is linked to over 100 similar bodies in other countries throughout the world.
CMF exists to unite Christian healthcare professionals to pursue the highest ethical standards in Christian and professional life and to increase faith in Christ and acceptance of his ethical teaching.
