Editorial

This issue represents a wide range of history. Paul Broomhall, was a grandson of Hudson Taylor. The EHA Jubilee reminds us of past medical missionaries who pioneered hospitals that have become a Christian health service caring for many of the poor in India. District hospitals have become the centres from which Primary Health Care reaches out into the community and to which patients with complex problems are referred . In Africa the district hospital is often the local mission hospital. In some countries there is little else in the way of a health service for the poor. The mission hospital may be taken over by the state, but retain its Christian ethos. It may be handed back, not to the mission, but to the local church. MMA sees a future role of envisioning Christian healthcare professionals to take up the challenge and opportunities of sharing the love of God in Christ in these situations, and of providing an information network to enable them to do so. The MMA enters a new phase in its history. John Attia reminds us of the kind of people we must be if we are to fulfil our aims.
