speak it into being
Onahi Idikwu shares a conversation about the power of prayer
Josie:
Hey Holly, thanks for getting the door! My swipe card seems to always be at the bottom of my bag
Holly:
Haha, no worries, same thing happens to me; as soon as I get to the changing room doors, I can never seem to find my swipe
Josie:
So true. How many nights you on?
Holly:
Erm, this is three of three. This is your first night, isn’t it?
Josie:
Yeah, this is my first one; I’m only doing two, though. How were your other nights?
Holly:
Girl, those nights were so gross! The first night was high-volume, and yesterday it was the acuity that took us out; we couldn’t finish the checks ‘till, like, 07:50 ‘coz we had a sick one come in at 6am who eventually went to PICU.
Josie:
Aww, Hols, that sounds tough, man! And you guys were one down, right?
Holly:
Yeah, we were, but I have a good feeling about tonight. I’m putting loads of positive energy out there; let’s manifest a calm and peaceful shift.
Josie:
Ooo, I’d love a calm shift too, but I am not sure about all that ‘manifesting’ stuff, haha. What does it actually mean anyway?
Holly:
Well, it’s super easy; you’ve just gotta, like, harness the power of your mind to bring things you want into reality. You know? Visualise, affirm, or think something over and over, and you’ll attract positive things.
Josie:
That’s kind of wild to me. Have you had much success with it? (Also, could you just reach over and pass me my other Croc? I have no idea how it got all the way over there.)
Holly:
Sure, here you are.
Josie:
Thanks girl!
Holly:
Well, sometimes it does, but other times it kinda flops, but I was listening to a podcast the other day, and I think maybe I’m not doing it right, so I’ve gotta keep practising.
Josie:
Sounds pretty exhausting, especially when it doesn’t work. Does it make you anxious? You know, feeling like it’s all down to you to craft this perfect life for yourself?
Holly:
Better than doing nothing though, right? Life can feel so random and chaotic at times, that I’ll take any control I can get, even if the universe only listens 50 per cent of the time, haha!
Josie:
Haha girl, 50 per cent of the time? I think I will stick to talking to God who is listening 100 per cent of the time! Haha! I hear you, though; I get wanting to control things.
Holly:
Yeah, I guess you talking to God is kinda like me putting things out into the universe, right? Just a different name for the same thing?
Josie:
Interesting. If I told you to describe the universe in three words, what would you say?
Holly:
Hmmm, that’s kinda difficult ‘coz the universe isn’t really a person, it’s more of a power source that I can use to bring things into being
Josie:
Right, so for me, rather than trying to bring things into being myself, I ask God, who is my Father in heaven to bring things into being. I just pray about everything, and because I believe God is wise, powerful, and loving, I trust him to sort of screen all those prayers and do what he knows is best.
Holly:
Wow, that’s a lot of faith to put in one person
Josie:
Yeah, I guess you’re right, but the more I know God, the more I trust him; even in chaos and crisis, I have found God to be warm, kind, and close. There is a bit in the Bible where God says to his people ‘when you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.’ And I find that comforting because, though I would so love a calm shift tonight, even if it is super busy, I know that God will be with me, and therefore I’ll be ok
Holly:
Dium girl, that’s food for thought. Thanks for sharing!
Josie:
I got you, girl. Also, is this your coffee? You wanting to take it out with you?
Holly:
Oh ma goodness, thanks, defo don’t want to leave that behind
Josie:
Haha, come on girl, let’s go
