e-newsletter : 23 March 2007

Hope you enjoy this first CMF eNewsletter. We intend it to come out every few weeks, to inform, to encourage, and to stimulate prayer always and action sometimes. Follow the links for more information. Feedback welcomed!

Conferences

The 27-29 April National Graduate Conference concerns our being disciples together. At this difficult time in the NHS, we need each other more than ever. Please come!

CMFs annual student conference last month - the God we serve is able - was the second biggest ever.

The East Anglia Day Conference on 3 March looked at clinical implications of the Mental Capacity Act, parts of which come into law in England on 1 April.

Members matter

Many CMF juniors, some the especially vulnerable international medical graduates, are caught up in the current manpower crisis brought about by the computer-based system in Modernising Medical Careers.

As a trial of online purchasing, some CMF books are now available on Amazon.

Our new home

On 22 March CMF exchanged contracts on 6-8 Marshalsea Road SE1. The Appeal to purchase this property is now over the £1 million mark. Thank you! Please help us make the second million quickly and be able to go all out in our task together of taking Christianity into the medical world.

Ethics

Morphine kills pain not patients, and we need more palliative care spread more fairly, were the twin messages of Care Not Killing's response to the case of Kelly Taylor who seeks legal support for being sedated into a coma and then starved and dehydrated to death.

The Sexual Orientation Regulations were passed this week and raise conscience issues for some paediatricians and GPs involved in gay adoption. Our partners at Lawyers' Christian Fellowship recommend the Daily Mail critique. CMF is monitoring the situation and members' opinions.
